The Art of Sashimono

Sashimono is more than just a brand to me—it’s a philosophy, a way of bringing timeless craftsmanship into modern design. The name "Sashimono" refers to the traditional Japanese woodworking technique where pieces are joined without screws or nails. It’s a method that requires precision, patience, and respect for the material.

My journey with Sashimono began during my time as a student of Industrial Design Engineering at TU Delft. While studying, I spent half a year in Korea, where I became deeply inspired by eastern design philosophies. I visited temples built entirely with wood, where complex joinery held structures together for centuries. The beauty and ingenuity of these techniques sparked something in me—an appreciation for the harmony between craftsmanship and natural materials.

Through Sashimono, I aim to bring furniture to life in a way that honors traditional craftsmanship while embracing modern design. Every piece I create is a balance of old and new, crafted with care to stand the test of time—both in durability and in style. For me, every joint and every grain of wood tells a story of thoughtful design and skillful hands, made to last.

After graduating, I worked as an innovation design consultant for two and a half years, helping companies bring new ideas to life. While I enjoyed the creativity, I found myself missing the hands-on process of making something tangible. I wanted to create with my own hands, not just on a computer screen. That’s when I decided to start Sashimono.
